5 reasons why you should treat people the way you want to be treated

Are you curious about the concept “why you should treat people the way you want to be treated”?

It is best to treat people the way we want to be treated because it leaves us with a clean conscience.

In life people always want to be treated with respect, but many times they are not very respectful to others.

Linking the Golden rule “treat others the way you expect others to treat you” to a beautiful verse of the Bible which says “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” I believe these principles are the most important guidelines to live by.

If you want to know how others treat you, it is best that you study yourself and try to observe how you treat others.

If you really don’t fancy the way you are being treated, then the only course of action is to change your behavior, because you can’t change anyone else’s.

People will give you what you give them, so don’t expect anything different. Don’t ever try to make yourself great by making someone else look small because if roles were reversed you wouldn’t want to be treated that way.

Treating other people in an unfair way will just leave us feeling bad later on or instantly. And this depends on how sensitive we are.

Reasons why you should treat people the way you want to be treated

There are several reasons why you should treat people the way you want to be treated. For the purpose of this article, we will discuss only 5 reasons you should treat people with extreme care.

  1. It is the right thing to do

Let me ask you a quick question? How do you want people to treat you? With love, respect, disrespect, rudeness, or in a polite manner?

You don’t need to answer the question in the comment section, it is a personal question that you should ponder on and tell yourself a truthful answer.

It is true that the world is not nice because you are. however, this doesn’t mean that you should take it up as a responsibility to be rude and disrespectful to everybody.

If you want love, you should be willing to give it too, if you want peace, happiness, and understanding. You should also be able and willing to give this to others.

There is a popular saying that you reap what you sow, it is almost like the law of karma which states that what goes around comes around.

Ensure that you try really hard to sow good seeds, don’t sow a seed that you cannot bear to harvest in the future.

In summary;  be the reason that someone believes that good people still exist.

  1. For future sake

We cannot be so sure that we will never meet the people we once treated badly in the future.

There is a possibility that you might meet again, how will you like the person to respond to you. I have seen so many movies and heard stories of ill-treated people who came back for revenge.

Will you always be mean or rude forever? What if life challenges and circumstances change you into a kinder person.

Show a little bit of kindness, love, and care to everyone you meet for the sake of the future. I am fully aware that it can be really hard to show kindness to some set of people especially when they are rude and disrespectful.

At this point, the choice is yours to make, however, I strongly advise that you handle the matter with maturity.

  1. To set a standard

When you treat people right or wrong, you are setting a standard on the way they should treat you. There is a popular saying that respect is earned not given; if you want to receive respect, then you should be willing to give it.

Don’t complain that people are rude or unsympathetic to you. Rather ask yourself a single question am I rude or unsympathetic to people?

Please do not misunderstand me! I am fully aware that there are some people who have really annoying and disrespectful attitudes. Despite how nice or welcoming you are, they do not really care.

These kinds of people exist in our homes, families, offices, and environment; however, they should not be the reason you change for the worse.

Respect and love yourself enough to set the right standard that people should follow. Treat people right so that they can also learn to treat you better.

  1. If it is right? You are building societal values

How can we differentiate what is right and wrong? As children, our parents made the choice about what was right or wrong for us.

Growing up, we made these decisions ourselves. We all have a conscience, that little voice in our head that points us to what’s wrong or right.

When we do something wrong it chastises or corrects us, when we do right, we feel happy and peaceful.

However, there is a little deal-breaker; most times what is acceptable to us might not be acceptable to others and this might hurt their feelings.

If you decide to treat people in a manner acceptable by your conscience and of course the laws governing your country. You are simply building up a positive societal value that is worthy of emulation.

  1. Serve as a role model or an icon of leadership

Have someone ever made this statement to you “I am disappointed in you”

This is a very hurtful statement, the individual probably held you in high regard however your actions in a particular event were shocking and unbelievable.

You may not be aware of this, but the truth is when you treat people right, so many other people look up to you with respect and high regard.

This might sound really shocking to you, but there are so many people looking up to you but you have no idea. When you treat people in the right and proper manner, you set yourself as an icon for people to follow.

Conclusion

It is very important that we treat people the way we want to be treated. Love people enough to treat them in a right and acceptable manner despite their flaws and excesses.

I am not saying that you have to tolerate everything. If someone offends you, try to speak to them about it when you feel calmer.

However, holding onto grievances and anger can affect your mental health which eventually affects you physically.
